Roped Solo

This course is designed specifically to teach the many facets of climbing on ropes without a partner.

In this course, we will examine various devices, safety systems, anchors, and roped methods used when climbing partnerless.

There are two kinds of course that I teach:option one is how to climb solo with devices like the Petzl Mini-Traxion. This is appropriate for a climber who will be mostly toproping laps.

The other course is a comprehensive look at how to solo big walls in areas like Yosemite and Zion. We will bring out a massive haulbag and talk about what happens from the first move to the last haul (and descent) in this course.

El Capitan, Yosemite
Soloing El Capitan in 1993, for me, was a life-changing experience. I learned many of the skills I teach in this course before I actually tackled the wall, but also learned many critical nuances in a type of "trial by fire"-not recommended! I had roped soloed some other walls like Washington Column, but taking these skills high up on the "Dad" required many skills and quite a bit of thinking outside the box. There are a lot more resources now for the aspiring soloist, which I address in this course.
